Philippine Women’s National Football Team star Sarina Bolden relished the moment she witnessed the Filipina5 score their historic first two goals in the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup.

Bolden, together with the Filipinas squad currently preparing for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games next month, was in attendance at the PhilSports Arena last Monday when Inday Tolentin and Cathrine Graversen made history by scoring the country’s first-ever World Cup goals.

“I'm sure we're all feeling excited, happy, joyful, all the emotions,” Bolden said.

“You could see it on Inday and Cath, and on the whole team. People were just hugging and embracing each other. That’s really what it’s all about. No matter what, history was made here, something to be proud of.”

Bolden herself made history two years ago when she scored against co-hosts New Zealand to deliver the Philippines’ first-ever win in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. But she admitted that what Tolentin and Graversen achieved carried a different kind of weight.

“I don't even know what that feeling is like, scoring a World Cup goal in your home country, but I’m sure it’s amazing,” she said.

“I’m super proud of them. I wish them all the best for the rest of the tournament. And after this, I’m a futsal fan for life, for my teammates and in general.”

With the World Cup being staged in the Philippines, Bolden hopes this hosting and the moments it has produced will spark greater support for the sport moving forward.

“It's amazing. More support and more funding for the game can go a long way in developing futsal and football, and in getting more people involved,” Bolden said.

“I’m really excited to see what comes next, especially in terms of resources.”
