Young Alas Pilipinas men’s volleyball prospect Ike Barilea has passed away after recently turning 21.
The Alas Pilipinas official social page on Tuesday announced its pool member’s sudden passing. The death of the opposite spiker has yet to be disclosed as of posting time amid unconfirmed reports.
The whole Philippine volleyball community, including his Alas Pilipinas teammates, mourns the untimely death of the 6-foot-1 player.
He got a call-up from Alas coach Angiolino Frigoni and was listed on the Alas-Cignal roster in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Champions League last May.
Barilea was also part of the pool for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and is still part of the program.
At age 18, Barilea played in the Spikers’ Turf with fellow prodigy Jade Disquitado for Santa Rosa City Lions in the 2023 season. Then, he led a Cebu-based Team 1Silay in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Under-21 division.
