Tiu to Blazers: Get better

College of Saint Benilde has found its way back into the win column of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 101 men’s basketball tournament.

But head coach Charles Tiu remains unsatisfied with their performance.

“I’m not too happy with the way we played,” said Tiu, whose team reclaimed the No. 2 spot in Group B of the preliminaries.

“You can’t just decide when you want to play. We talked about it, not being overconfident.”

Billed as a heavyweight heading into the season, the Blazers had a rollercoaster campaign after losing three of their first six matches.

They finally got over the hump against lowly Lyceum of the Philippines University but they had to claw their way back from a 16-point deficit before they pulled off a 70-67 victory.

Tiu said they could have easily handled the Pirates that were missing their top star Ato Barba. But their sloppy plays in the first half nearly led to yet another disastrous performance.

“We have to get better. We’re much better than the way we’re playing, and that’s the frustrating part,” emphasized Tiu, whose wards were also previously upset by Arellano University, 67-72.

“We need to play better if we want to get anywhere in the season -- or we’re gonna have an early vacation.”
