In the Dallas Mavericks’ 134-128 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, Cooper Flagg continued his historic run. After erupting for 51 points in the previous game, the 19-year-old star posted a near triple-double with 45 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists to guide Dallas to victory.
Flagg now holds the record for the most 40-point games by a teenage player, recording his fourth such performance. Remarkably, the previous record holder was his opponent, LeBron James, who had three 40-point games as a teen. Flagg’s four 40-point games also rank third among rookies over the past 50 years, trailing only Michael Jordan (seven) and Allen Iverson (five).
The Mavericks phenom became the first teenager to score 35+ points in back-to-back games and the first rookie to post consecutive 40-point games since Iverson in 1996-97. His 96 points over two games mark the highest consecutive-game rookie total since Wilt Chamberlain.
On the other side, 41-year-old LeBron James nearly matched the feat with a triple-double of 30 points, 9 rebounds, and 15 assists. This was the first time in NBA history that a teenage player and a player over 40 each scored 30 points in the same game.
