A towering presence at the net, Majoy Baron unleashed seven blocks to finish with 14 points, powering PLDT to a 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15 victory over Akari for a solo 3-0 lead in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the FilOil Centre in San Juan City.
PLDT tallied 13 blocks in the match, with Baron accounting for more than half, as their net defense proved too much aside from the tremendous offense led by Savi Davison and steady floor defense anchored by libero Kath Arado.
“We know that Akari has strong net defense and floor defense, so in our preparation, we really trusted our system. Studying the opponent was also very important,” Baron said.
The three-time PVL Best Middle Blocker has led PLDT in kill blocks in the past two games, including five in their previous win over Capital1.
“For me, getting blocks is very important because I’m a middle blocker — that’s my main job,” she said.
The six-foot middle blocker credited Arado, who tallied 26 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions, for helping her read Akari’s attackers.
“I’m happy because I was able to get those blocks, and it’s really because my teammates were helping me. They were giving me advice — like Kath Arado telling me which area to close. That really helped me a lot,” Baron said.
The 30-year-old Baron vowed to remain consistent at the net as PLDT eyes an outright semifinal berth should it sweep the elimination round.
